The fauna and flora are typical of this type of topography and natural vegetation, making this enterprise perfect for natural livestock farming and producing sought-after quality lucerne and wheat. The entire perimeter fencing is jackal-proof and is in good repair. At present the farming operation consists of 800 Merino ewes and 800 Dorper ewes. The riverbanks are covered with trees, thicket, and taller shrubs. The Sak River is seasonal and, with it running through the farm, the carrying capacity is increased substantially. Approximately 700 hectares are arable land, of which 100 hectares are currently planted with lucerne and 300 hectares are planted with wheat. Flood irrigation is used on these sections. Andrew Geddes Bain, Scottish-born geologist and road engineer, lived in South Africa in the 1800s and designed many of the most well-known mountain passes, including Bainskloof Pass on the regional road between Wellington and Ceres in the Western Cape province. The 18-kilometer pass that was constructed with the use of convict labour, was opened in 1854 and is still in use today. Bain owned this historic farm and he developed many of the water structures and canals that are still used for irrigating the huge acreage after good rains in the upstream areas of the Sak River. The farm lends itself to the production of superb quality wool and meat. Ample fresh drinking water for livestock is obtained from 7 windmills, supplying water to 11 reservoirs and 19 throughs. The carrying capacity is 1:38 LSU and the farm can comfortably carry livestock such as sheep, goats, and game. Accommodation consists of a spacious, historic 4-bedroom homestead as well as a managers house and 5 labourer cottages. Solar power supplies electricity to all of the buildings. Livestock farming infrastructure consist of a spacious shearing shed, various other outbuildings, a workshop and 2 large storage sheds as well as cattle and small stock handling facilities. All infrastructure is well-designed, functional and in good repair. Farms of this extent on the banks of the Sak River seldomly come into the market! The farm is for sale lock stock and barrel at R20,000,000.00 excluding VAT, but including lucerne bales to the value of R600,000, various tractors, truck and movables, as well as the livestock.

Rietvlei is a sheep farm with excellent Karoo grazing that has been well preserved by us and the previous owner over the years implementing good grazing management. The grazing capacity for the farm is around 400 ewes. There are many small game such as Klipspringers, Duikertjies, and Steenbokkies. There are exceptionally many quiver trees and beautiful scenic parts, making it highly suitable for tourism. There are excellent 4x4 trails and some beautiful waterfalls. The infrastructure is good. We have recently been working on the fences, sheep-pens, and some of the dams. Livestock drinking facilities are in reasonably good condition. Because of the mountains, the hectares are much larger than indicated. About 60 ha of dam lands can be irrigated from the Hantams River. It is a non-perennial river but is fed during good rains. Fodder such as oats, barley, wheat, and grasses such as Superdan grass can be cultivated for grazing. The farm does not have ESKOM electricity. Solar Electricity must be installed and water must be repaired by the new owner. The Internet can be obtained via the local provider. Rainfall: The farm is mainly located in a winter rainfall region, but also receives good summer rain in the form of thunderstorms in a normal rainy year. In a good season, the average rainfall is about 200mm per year. Currently, this region is getting wonderful rainfall. Mariasdal: Portion 2/431 T 102250/2007 CTN 2272.814ha Mariasdal has: 3 boreholes, 2 with wind pumps, and the other hole will be equipped with a solar pump. About 30 ha of Irrigation land from the Hantams River and fountain. NB- due to the drought, the fountain is dry for the first time in a lifetime. Our expectation is that it will revive, and be steadfast again. About 30ha is irrigated from this by means of canals from the fountain. It is also a sheep farm with a carrying capacity of about 400 sheep. It is a beautiful farm with beautiful natural scenes and 4x4 trails and lots of small game such as steenbok, klipspringers, and duikers. (small buck) The infrastructure: Livestock drinking facilities and fences are in fairly good condition. The farm does not have a house. There are 2 old homesteads one of which was the original house but are not habitable. Because of the mountains, it is much larger than the indicated hectares.
